Job Purpose:

The Specialist III, Operations Underwriting provides technical expertise to credit unions by servicing commercial property and casualty coverage requests including referrals from Operations Underwriting Specialist I’s when needed and acts as an insurance consultant to both internal and external customers.  The Operations Underwriting Specialist III utilizes comprehensive knowledge of policy coverage, loss prevention and full department underwriting authority to complete appropriate applications.  This position will also provide mentorship and coaching expertise to members of the CUP Servicing Team when appropriate.

Specialist—possesses detailed knowledge and/or skill on a particular subject or activity.  Their talents are devoted to a particular business focus and they provide guidance, technical leadership, and training to less experienced staff. Develops and implements solutions that align with key business strategies and initiatives.

Framework General Profile and Scope:       

  • Performs routine assignments in the entry level to a professional job progression.
  • Typically requires a college or university degree or the equivalent work experience that provides knowledge and exposure to fundamental theories, principles and concepts.
  • Develops competence by performing structured work assignments.
  • Uses existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems.
  • Receives instruction, guidance and direction from others.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise to credit unions by servicing commercial property & casualty coverage requests, answering billing questions, resolving problems and issuing coverages within prescribed authority.
  • Accept and complete referrals from other Underwriting team members when requested.
  • Provide ongoing professional communication with field staff, insured’s, auditors, attorneys and other TruStage departments via telephone, letters, faxes and Internet. Primary communication is via the telephone.
  • Act as an insurance consultant to both internal and external customers.
  • Provide web support expertise to customers on TruStage webinars, added value services, and required renewal questionnaire. 
  • Train credit union staff on using the Credit Union Protection website for transmitting requests for coverage changes and completing policy renewal surveys.
  • Documentation of all verbal and written communication between internal and external customers using an on-line customer contact tracking system and effectively capture the underwriting decision making process.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching expertise to CUP Servicing Team members.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance, Accounting or Finance or equivalent professional work experience. 
  • 0-2 years of experience in Commercial P&C underwriting or risk management areas or comparable experience in the Commercial property and casualty line field.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze insuring agreements to determine coverage applicability.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated effective customer service and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Property and Casualty Licensed.

Compensation may vary based on the job level, your geographic work location, position incentive plan and exemption status.

 

Base Salary Range:

$50,000.00 - $75,000.00
