Works under the direction of the Manager of Technical Services serving as a key resource in a particular laboratory service discipline. Maintains a high level of expertise in their designated section, while contributing to the overall laboratory through their work at the technical bench. Takes a leadership role in the assessment and ongoing use of the instruments and procedures in their section, new product evaluation, and development of new procedures. Serves as a resource for the accreditation preparations for their area of expertise.Job Type: Full Time
Shift Length: 6:30am-3pm
Weekend Frequency: Every third weekend
Wage Range: $28.33-$42.49
Education Requirements:
-Bachelors Degree
-Certified Med Lab Scientist ASCP (C-MLS)
PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES
- In addition to the essential functions required of a Medical Laboratory Scientist, demonstrates a strong understanding of overall laboratory processes and procedures with special attention to the following components of the analytical process in their designated area:
- Procedure manual accuracy and functionality, preventive maintenance, quality control, new test evaluation, troubleshooting, training, procedure implementation, competency evaluation, supplies and reagents.
WORKFLOW
- Helps identify best practices for the organization of workload to achieve optimum turnaround times.
- Performs and documents instrument maintenance.
- Reviews maintenance and problems logs and follows up with any necessary corrective actions.
- Documents review and any actions taken. Implements new tests.
ANALYTICAL
- Demonstrates the ability to analyze test results and determine accuracy and precision.
- Reviews Quality Control logs and follows up with any necessary corrective actions.
- Documents review and any actions taken.
- Is capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and correct the problem or uses available resources to ensure that the problem is corrected.
- Clearly documents problems discovered and any follow up action taken.
USE OF RESOURCES
- Coaches and mentors laboratory staff in the delivery of quality clinical laboratory services.
- Serves as a key resource for both internal and external customers of the laboratory.
- Actively develops and promotes safe work practices throughout the laboratory with special attention to the area of expertise.
- May periodically be on call to allow continuity of laboratory services as necessary.
- Serves as a key resource to co-workers with respect to the laboratory information system and results that are reported.
- Also serves as a liaison between the department systems specialist and the MLS/MLT's.
- Serves as a resource for the accreditation preparations for their applicable section.
