In this key role, you’ll play an integral part in supporting the GB finance team, working across a variety of accounting activities — from compiling, consolidating, and analysing financial data to ensuring the integrity of our accounting records. You’ll take ownership of core day-to-day finance processes, including journal postings, cost allocations, month-end reconciliations, and variance analysis, while also contributing to group reporting and balance sheet reconciliation at month end.

Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
- Preparing GB site specific journals, calculating and maintaining prepayments and accruals, relevant provisions etc.
- Calculating and agreeing intercompany balances and settlement.
- Assisting in the preparation of management accounts, through provision of variance analysis for specifically assigned areas.
- Supporting the GB Finance Managers on any required analysis including prior month cost and revenue impacts, and deep dives to understand the underlying position.
- Preparing assigned balance sheet recs, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
- Supporting the GB Finance Managers in establishing budgets for specific cost areas as well as associated reporting and presentation.
- Supporting on budget and forecast uploads.
- Supporting on the preparation of monthly, quarterly and half yearly group reporting submissions, including responding to queries from EPH.
- Supporting cost centre reporting/business partnering and budgeting of costs for the GB assets.
- Preparing external submissions in an accurate and timely manner, including ONS surveys, climate change levy, landfill tax, for review by the GB Finance Managers.
- Supporting the GB Finance Managers on ad-hoc data requests, collating data, outage planning etc.
- Assisting with the year-end audit, providing analysis, supporting evidence and explanations as required.
- Preparing the GB financial KPIs as required for review by the GB Reporting Manager.
- Assisting transactional team with invoicing queries, allocation of payments and setting up direct debits/standing orders.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Excellent excel skills and ability to understand complex models and analysis - essential.
- Confident in analysing large volumes of data - essential.
- Basic understanding of UK taxation - essential.
- Enthusiastic about developing skills and progressing within a dynamic organisation - essential.
- Knowledge and application of accounting standards - desirable.
- SAP system knowledge - desirable.
- Experience of working in a similar role - desirable.
- Experience of working in an energy, manufacturing or production focussed environment - desirable.
- Effective time management organised and the ability to prioritise tasks - essential.
- Effective communicator and good at building relationships - essential.
- Strong team collaborator with a positive, supportive attitude and a willingness to help others - essential.
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent - essential.
- Part qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or a graduate with strong academic record looking to pursue professional qualification.
