Position Overview

The role of a Welder at Steel Equipment Specialists (SES) requires experience in an industrial environment with experience in capital project fitting of large steel materials to create high-precision assemblies. Welding aptitude, competent experience with flux-core, and certifications are a must.

The successful candidate will have Job duties that will include:

General Knowledge & Skills

  • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to strict drawing tolerance specifications.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, fitting, and welding operations in their proper sequence.
  • Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using mainly flux-core, and other stick, MIG, or TIG welding equipment.
  • Cuts workpiece, using handheld torches, plasma cutters, or track burners.
  • Must evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications using approved fillet weld gages.
  • Must hand dress and weld prep each weld joint using hand grinders, hand torches, and plasma cutters. 
  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions using flux-core, stick, MIG, and TIG applications.
  • Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts (jigs and fixtures).
  • Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of parent metals grade, pre-heat and post heat requirements, weldability of similar metals all according to AWS welding standards.

Required Experience

The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on, practical experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment; must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent; current welding certifications, and all required personal tools to fulfil required tasks.
 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination are required to operate welding tools and machinery safely and effectively.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various positions including kneeling, crouching, and lying down.
  • Visual acuity is required to inspect welds and read blueprints or technical drawings.
  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to heat, fumes, noise, and other environmental conditions typical of an industrial welding setting.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and respirators is mandatory.
  • Ability to respond quickly to auditory signals (e.g., alarms, verbal instructions) in a noisy environment.
