About the Department
Custodian positions at this level perform various housekeeping, custodial, and maintenance related tasks to ensure and maintain proper cleanliness of facilities, institution. Positions repair and replace various items, including but not limited to, light fixtures, switches, doors, hardware, windows, locks, etc.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE:
Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

Position Duties
- Cleans various buildings, offices, rooms, institutional and non-institutional facilities;
- Cleans and sanitizes showers, restrooms, toilet facilities; keeps them properly supplied with toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other items;
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors, walls and woodwork; dusts furniture and equipment; empties and cleans ash trays and wastebaskets; polishes furniture and metal fixtures; washes windows; vacuums rugs, curtains and furniture;
- Performs minor maintenance and repair work, such as unskilled painting, cleaning furnace flues, sharpening tools and replacing faucet washers or toilet tank floats;
- Empties wastebaskets, trash, and recycle containers;
- Utilizes the computerized Maintenance Management System to get and track work orders
- Sets up and takes down equipment and furnishings;
- Maintains inventory of equipment and products.
- Repairs or replaces fixtures, furnishings, and any other miscellaneous objects;
- Paints small offices, latrines, kitchens, classrooms;
- Makes rounds, locking doors, closing windows, turning off lights and replacing burned out light bulbs; turns air conditioning and other equipment on and off;
- Moves furniture and equipment; arranges tables and chairs for special events; collects and disposes of garbage and trash;
- Shovels snow and sweeps and washes sidewalks; does yard and garden chores such as mowing, raking, pruning, trimming, debris pickup and pressure wash;
- Improves work methods, knowledge of equipment, supplies and safety through participation in training sessions with supervisors;
- Maintains inventories and makes simple reports; requisitions supplies and equipment;
- May supervise lower level staff.
Shift may very 1st - 2nd depending on the needs of the management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Able to understands cleaning levels set by APPA for Higher Education Facilities
- Able to utilize a computer maintenance management system
Other Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to lift 75 lb.
- High lift certification or ability to obtain
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain
- First Aid certification or ability to obtain
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Working from elevated platforms
- Working from step and extension ladders
