Job Summary

The Charity Care & Financial Assistance Auditor leads audit activities for the New Jersey Charity Care and Financial Assistance program ensuring compliance with state and client requirements. This role assists clients and state audit teams in preparing for audits and participates in all on-site audit activities. The auditor reviews results, identifies areas for process improvement, and implements solutions to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Serving as a subject matter expert, they provide guidance and support to colleagues and leadership teams, lead training initiatives, and collaborate with client organizations to maintain high-quality audit outcomes.

Work Schedule and Location:

  • Work Hours: This role is a full-time exempt position. Core work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm; however, flexibility is required to meet business and travel needs. The role follows a hybrid schedule, combining remote and in-office work, and requires frequent travel to client facilities - approximately 75% - to conduct onsite audits across various locations throughout the year. Travel requirements may expand if additional facilities are contracted, requiring onsite audits beyond the current locations listed below:

    • Cooper University Hospital - 1 Federal Plaza, Camden, NJ. 08103

    • Cooper University Hospital - Cape Regional - 2 Stone Harbor Blvd., Cape May Court House, NJ. 08210

    • Shore Medical Center - 100 Medical Center Way, Somers Point, NJ. 08244

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare clients for state audits, participate in on-site audits, and review results for accuracy.

  • Collaborate with clients to file state appeals when necessary.

  • Conduct high-balance and spot audits to identify issues, ensure quality, and support audit readiness.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and liaison with internal teams, clients, and auditors, addressing questions and providing requested documentation.

  • Support client file processing, application reviews, operational leader coverage, and general office operations as needed.

  • Ensure internal and external policies and procedures are current, consistently followed, and aligned with best practices; identify and correct anomalies.

  • Recommend and implement process or technology improvements, including training and education for Medicaid and Charity Care.

  • Partner with the Department of Health and Human Services Charity Care division to ensure that Savista stays current in policy regulations and requirements.

  • Lead Charity Care training for clients, new hires, and refresher sessions; proctor exams; and maintain training materials in compliance with state requirements.

  • Partner with the Service Delivery Trainer to keep Charity Care learning modules current on the learning platform.

  • Monitor new colleagues’ performance to ensure accurate account approvals, providing written evaluations and improvement plans to onsite leaders.

  • Provide backup support for onsite management as needed.

  • Compile annual subsidy analyses for client organizations.

  • Complete other special projects or assignments, as assigned.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • 3+ years of experience leading healthcare audit activities.

  • Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle audit practices and Medicaid eligibility guidelines.

  • Proven ability to evaluate, implement, and improve audit solutions.

  • Experience collaborating and influencing across functions and organizations.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and detail orientation.

  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams when needed.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Maintain driver license and reliable transportation

  • Travel: 75%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading audits specifically for Charity Care programs or Medicaid.

  • Familiarity with New Jersey hospital and state Medicaid guidelines.

  • Prior experience training staff or leading cross-functional teams in healthcare compliance.

  • Strong project management and multi-site coordination skills.

Savista is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $55,000.00 to $70,000.00. However, specific compensation for the role will vary within the above range based on many factors including but not limited to geographic location, candidate experience, applicable certifications, and skills. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
