The Office of Decision Support (ODS) facilitates leadership decision-making by providing data, analysis, business solutions and reporting for USF and to coordinate academic planning, reporting and related needs for USF. ODS supports the University by ensuring competitive performance, compliance with regulations and policies, and institutional accreditation.
ODS seeks a detail-oriented and highly organized candidate with a strong academic background for the Graduate Assistant (GA) position. The GA will support the unit’s work by leveraging tools such as SAS, SQL, Microsoft Power BI, and Excel to address analytical needs related to student success metrics. The role involves both structured and exploratory projects, including data extraction, cleaning, reporting, model development, and storytelling through dashboards in Power BI. In addition, the GA will contribute to researching and exploring how AI technologies can be applied to drive innovative solutions and process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Collect, prepare, analyze, and validate student success data to generate accurate metrics, reports, and dashboards for university leadership.
- Develop and maintain data visualizations and storytelling dashboards in Power BI, while supporting additional reporting needs through SAS, SQL, and Excel.
- Assist with documentation, presentations, and other communication materials (e.g., reports, white papers, PowerPoint) to support decision-making.
- Research and explore how AI technologies can be applied for innovative solutions and process improvements, alongside traditional data analysis tasks.
Qualifications
Must be fully admitted in a graduate degree program; classified as a degree seeking graduate student, and meet the requirements of the graduate school. For some positions assigned to this class, special qualifications may be added to the minimum such as completion of a master's degree or a specified number of graduate credit hours.
Required Skills and Experience:
- PhD student with experience in programming, AI tools, data analytics, or a combination of these.
- Data analysis experience with the ability to extract, clean, and interpret complex datasets.
- Exposure to data visualization and dashboard development (Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, data comparison, formatting).
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow directions.
- Self-motivated, quick learner, and interested in exploring new tools and technologies.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Minimum Qualifications
- Accepted into a PhD program and enrolled full-time during the semester.
- Maintain an overall GPA and degree program GPA of at least 3.0.
- Previous work experience that demonstrates attention to detail.
- Previous work experience demonstrating attention to detail, analytical or programming skills and research abilities
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- 2 years experience with Tableau or Microsoft Power BI
- Knowledge of SAS or SQL
- Familiarity with Confluence and Jira, or project management tools
- Interest in exploring AI applications for innovative solutions and process improvement
