DEPARTMENT/PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD or Clubs) CHANGES LIVES through quality programs and guidance in a safe, affordable, and fun environment. BGCGSD’s mission is to inspire and enable youth to achieve academic success, build good character and responsible citizenship and make healthy lifestyle choices.   We have been providing a safe, fun and positive environment at our sites with trained and dedicated professional staff for over 75 years. Members are involved in age-appropriate activities based upon our three priority outcomes of Academic Success, Character Development and Healthy Lifestyles.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the VP of Development, the Director of Corporate Partnerships leads development activities within the BGCGSD corporate communities to build relationships and secure financial and volunteer support in pursuit of the Clubs’ financial goals. This position is responsible for securing financial and in-kind donations and developing volunteer engagement opportunities with corporations, and is responsible for significant revenue generation.

FUNCTIONS WITH CORRESPONDING TASKS

1. CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS 

  1. Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, recognizes, and stewards corporate prospects and donors. 
  2. Manages strategic corporate accounts. Identifies and enlists new funders through an entrepreneurial approach to prospect identification and cultivation. 
  3. Develops detailed cultivation and solicitation strategies for each corporate prospect/donor within the context of a multi-year strategy targeted to achieve annual fundraising goals and to create mutually beneficial partnerships. 
  4. Ensures effective strategies are utilized to increase income development opportunities with corporations and other organizations. Income opportunities include sponsorships, strategic alliances, and special event participation. 
  5. Responsible for implementing a moves management strategy to grow financial commitments from corporate partnerships over time.
  6. Design and oversee proposals that fully engage corporate partners in ways that maximize value to both BGCGSD and the partner. 
  7. Develops, monitors, and is responsible for achieving annual revenue budget for corporate programs and revenue. 
  8. Ensures tracking and reporting processes are in place to effectively monitor periodic (i.e. monthly/quarterly) progress against goals and to identify corrective actions to address variances in performance against goals.
  9. Write and track all communications, including proposals for significant corporate solicitations and contact reports following all meetings with donors and prospects.                                                                                    

2. CULTIVATION AND STEWARDSHIP 

  1. Develop detailed cultivation and solicitation strategies for each corporate prospect/donor within the context of a multi-year strategy targeted to achieve annual fundraising goals.
  2. Support the fundraising efforts of the Board of Directors by working collaboratively with them to solicit gifts from their company/employees/vendors/partners.
  3. Responsible for cultivating and managing ongoing relationships with current and prospective donors. Providing ongoing and timely donor recognition and appreciation.
  4. Cultivate a caseload of at least 25-30 active partnerships; execute strategies for solicitation of these prospects; develop and implement strategies for retention and continual engagement. Track ROI.
  5. Develop and maintain quality relationships to establish a large, committed volunteer base that supports the BGCGSD. 
  6. Participate in community activities which contribute to the acquisition and retention of corporate partners and board members, including, but not limited to, being an active member of a service organization.
  7. Conduct regular, face-to-face meetings with corporate partners to ensure relationship development and a long-term commitment between the donor and the organization.                                                                                           

3. RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT 

  1. Responsible for managing all corporate partnership events for BGCGSD, including but not limited to: Back to School Drive, You Go Girl, Summer Games, and Holiday Toy Drive.
  2. Work with development staff to formulate and administer an aggressive development plan with goals, objectives, and realistic timetable. 
  3. Support and ensure success of Signature Event, An Evening of Changing Lives to include but not limited to solicitation of auction items and sponsors, event preparations and staffing event. 
  4. Works in collaboration with the Development Team on the planning and implementation of the Little Jumps campaign.  
  5. Directly solicits contributions; coordinates activities with development colleagues to maximize potential gifts and ensure the “best ask”.
  6. Serves as a member of the Development team and works with other development staff to develop a cohesive, coherent fund-raising program for the BGCGSD, leading by example.
  7. Complete other duties as assigned. 

4.  SAFETY & WELLNESS

  1. Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all youth, staff, volunteers, and visitors by consistently enforcing safety protocols and organizational policies.
  2. Conduct regular safety inspections and promptly address any potential hazards or maintenance needs.
  3. Participate in safety drills and contribute to ongoing risk assessment and emergency preparedness efforts.
  4. Collaborate with leadership to implement and improve safety and wellness policies and procedures across the Club.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Degree in marketing, sales, business, or related field; minimum 5 years of successful, direct experience in development, including solicitation of corporate gifts for large corporation or non-profit.
  2. Relationship Development: Determine how best to maintain effective relationships; demonstrated ability to relate well to and understand the needs and interests of others. 
  3. Proven success in fundraising strategies related to campaign goals and strategic design, and tactical implementation for campaigns. Knowledge of fundraising strategies for major and principal gifts.
  4. Strong leadership skills; ability to lead, train, monitor and provide direction to working groups; ability to oversee and advise on work performed by sub-contractors, volunteers, and consultants.
  5. Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills to converse diplomatically and effectively with volunteers, donors, and staff; innate ability to work steadily and calmly in high pressure situations.
  6. Proven ability to work independently, to establish and revise priorities to meet shifting deadlines, and to prioritize and organize workload to meet multiple deadlines. 
  7. Experience in the development and implementation of a broad-based fundraising program including personally opening doors, cultivation and successfully closing major gifts.
  8. Strong project management skills and demonstrated problem solving skills. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify problems and develop innovative solutions. 
  9. Progressive experience in successful development programs and knowledge of "best practices" in development. 
  10. Aptitude to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
  11. Demonstrated experience using computers and relevant software applications, including database management, graphics, spreadsheets, calendaring, and word processing; MS-Office preferred and fundraising database systems. 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Valid Driver’s license and verification of insurance.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to travel and transport materials, using a cart or other means, to off-site meetings and events. 
  • Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends that coincide with events and meetings; and multiple work sites.
