We thrive on finding and cultivating talented people who are passionate about what they do. Join us and be a part of the diverse Caltech community.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will create an automated workflow for processing fault displacement slip profiles using remote sensing methods. Additionally, the proposed research will also process slip profiles from the 2019 Ridgecrest, CA, and 2023 Pazarcık, Türkiye earthquakes. The 2023 Pazarcık dataset will be further enhanced with field-based observations, including displacement measurements and geophysical characterization, collected during a prior USGS/Caltech reconnaissance mission. Leveraging these datasets, the successful candidate will develop preliminary models to characterize fault zone width and along-strike displacement correlation.

Essential Job Duties

  • Develop a robust and fully automated tool for processing fault displacement slip profiles acquired by remote sensing methods.
  • Synthesize and deliver flatfiles and shapefiles for the processed 2019 Ridgecrest, CA, and 2023 Pazarcık, Türkiye surface rupture datasets. The flatfiles will contain the output rupture metrics described in detail in Task 1 of Proposed Research Tasks. The shapefiles will detail the location of all identified individual sub-ruptures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Completed mechanical engineering and computer science coursework.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in fieldwork, such as participating in Engineers Without Borders missions.
