Special Education Resource Teacher- Long Term Substitute presso Woonsocket Education Department

Function: A Special Education Resource Teacher will provide remedial and/or supportive educational activities for students with diagnosed handicaps as indicated in their Individual Educational Plan. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assists in the screening, evaluation, and placement of students in special education programs. Develop an individualized and sequential program for students diagnosed as handicapped who require special education. Provides individualized and/or small-group instruction according to the needs specified in the individualized educational plan. Performs educational assessments, classroom observation, and vocational assessments when requested by the multidisciplinary team. Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings when necessary, as determined by the Chairperson. Assists the student, family, and teachers in making a realistic assessment of students’ abilities. Works cooperatively with classroom teachers, interprets the abilities and disabilities of students referred from regular classes, and assists students with regular class assignments. Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or behavioral problems of such students. Maintains accurate records on all students evaluated and serviced.
