Home and Hospital Tutor (Grade 7)

Position Type: Part-Time, Temporary

Reports To: Director of Winthrop House
Work Hours: Up to 10 hours per week
Compensation: Hourly rate 

Position Summary

The district is seeking a qualified and dedicated Home and Hospital Tutor to provide individualized academic instruction to a student who is temporarily unable to attend school due to medical or other approved circumstances. The tutor will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, support staff, and the family to ensure continuity of instruction and academic progress during the student’s absence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct, in-person instruction to the student for up to 10 hours per week, following the schedule and plan approved by the district.

• Deliver instruction in core academic subjects consistent with the student’s current curriculum and school assignments.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers to obtain lesson plans, assignments, and assessment expectations.

• Adapt instruction to meet the student’s individual learning needs, health status, and pacing.

• Maintain accurate documentation of instructional time, attendance, and student progress.

• Communicate regularly with the Winthrop House Director to review student progress

• Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations, including confidentiality and student privacy (FERPA).

• Support the student’s transition and reintegration into the school setting when appropriate.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

• Demonstrated experience teaching or tutoring students at the middle school level.

• Ability to work independently and manage instructional time effectively.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

• Reliable transportation to the student’s home or hospital setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Valid state teaching license (middle or secondary level).

• Experience providing home/hospital or individualized instruction.

• Familiarity with district curriculum, grading, and reporting systems.

Working Conditions

• Instruction provided in a mutually agreed upon public location, such as the library 

• If currently employed by PSB, the candidate cannot provide tutoring services during regular school hours. 

• Must adhere to all district safety and health protocols.

• Occasional travel within district boundaries may be required.
