About the Department
The Public Defender’s Office is a dynamic and innovative team on a Constitutionally mandated mission to defend the rights of indigent individuals. We are seeking a Legal Office Supervisor to provide leadership, guidance, and support in our commitment to justice.
As the right hand and trusted advisor to the Chief Public Defender, you will play a critical role in daily operations and long-term initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and evaluate staff engaged in legal, administrative, and technical support.
- Oversee preparation and filing of legal documents, reports, and case-related materials.
- Assist attorneys with trial and hearing preparation, including exhibits, witness lists, and jury instructions.
- Support attorneys in court or administrative proceedings as needed.
- Perform complex administrative and legal-related tasks.
- Manage HR-related processes such as staffing requests, onboarding, leave tracking, and personnel actions.
- Collaborate with other departments, including HHSA and the District Attorney’s Office.
- Assist with grant funding applications and implementation.
- Respond to complex inquiries from staff, the public, and other agencies.
- Lead or participate in projects to improve processes, workflow, and efficiency.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across County departments and the community.
