We are seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager based in Sacramento, CA, with extensive experience within the building products, interior finishing, or construction industries. This role directly supports a key strategic priority for Metrie, focused on driving the use of pre-finished millwork and doors in the home building process. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in sales, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build strong relationships with clients.

What You’ll Do

As Business Development Manager (BDM) for the Western U.S., you work in a National Team responsible for driving a key strategic priority for Metrie.  Reporting to the Director of Pre-finishing, you are focused on driving the use of pre-finished millwork and doors in the multi-family home building process.  This role is highly visible across the organization and plays a key part in shaping how Metrie expands its footprint in the multi-family segment.

A highly self-motivated, proactive, solutions focused individual who is familiar with how homes get built – and ideally multi-family construction builders and trades.  You have experience selling value, influencing key stakeholders, and have demonstrated the ability to collaborate with other teams, influencers, and customers.

 

You can think strategically about how to sell new products, are comfortable leading education sessions, happy spending time on job sites, and can define – then deliver – plans to deliver sales growth. 

This role is intended to be based out of Sacramento, with potential for other western locations for the right candidate. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Drive the pre-finished sales process for the West, from goal setting to planning, tracking, and reporting

  • Lead downstream interactions for region with builders / trade installers (painters, finishing carpenters) by cold calling, emailing, and setting up meetings to drive growth

  • Identify and convert existing customers and expand into new markets to generate sustainable and profitable growth

  • Gather, analyze, and use customer data in the sales pipeline

  • Monitor competitor activity and market trends to inform strategy and positioning

  • Capture and relay customer insights to inform product development and go-to-market strategies

  • Support regional pilots, installations, and trade shows

  • Collaborate with Regional Metrie teams, Builders, Trade Partners, and Customers

  • Serve as a product knowledge expert, conduct product training sessions, implement product improvement initiatives and attend relevant association and trade shows

  • Partner with product management and Marketing as needed for development of tools for channel partners and national accounts

     

     

 

Qualifications

Need to have

  • Industry experience within the building products, interior finishing, construction, or other related fields

  • Knowledge of the construction build process and procedures

  • Track record of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and collaborating with customers and other team members from different departments and    channels

  • Analytical skills to aid in decision making; proficiency with systems (Microsoft Teams, SAP, Hub Spot) and Excel spreadsheets

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse audiences including builders, trades, and internal stakeholders

  • Naturally entrepreneurial and solutions-focused, comfortable working with minimal direction

  • Thrive on driving results—takes the initiative, is disciplined, organized, always learning and action oriented

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting to evolving priorities in a dynamic market

  • Able to travel extensively, including overnight travel (30% regularly, with increased periods of travel as required).

  • Experience navigating job sites and engaging with trade professionals in the field

Nice to have

  • 5+ years in construction management and building material sales/operations

  • Experience working with, or directly as, a multi-family builder or large single-family projects

  • Knowledge of finished carpentry and / or trades who deliver it is a bonus

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in key aspects of sales, including growth strategies, distribution channel management, account development, and business planning

In adherence to the principle of pay transparency, we are pleased to disclose the base pay for this full-time position at Metrie. The base pay range for this role is set at $110,000−$125,000 It is important to note that this position may also qualify for discretionary bonuses or commission payments, we reserve the right to make changes to the variable program. The specific base pay within the range will be contingent upon an individual's skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that our remuneration ranges are established based on the role, level, and location. Please note that the actual pay may vary and can be higher or lower than the posted range based on these factors.
