Job Description:

Qualifications:

• Minimum Secondary School Diploma; diploma/education in food services is an asset

• Minimum one year experience in commercial cooking

• Experience in cooking multiple meals for large groups

• Must have Valid “Food Handlers Certificate”

• Good knowledge of nutrition and creative (making multiple uses with available inventory)

• Excellent organizational and time management skills

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and fast learner

• Ability to work independently and work well on a team

• Must be physically able to work long periods of time on their feet

• Able to lift objects up to 30 lbs., bend and twist when you are in the kitchen

• Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC), WHIMS certificate, and medical clearance with TB test

• Must have Valid Food Handlers Certificate, and Health and Safety Awareness for Ontario Workers training certificate

• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred

Supervision:

• Reports and is accountable to the Food Services Coordinator

Responsibilities:

Administration

• To complete all duties in accordance with the Standards and Policies & Procedures of The Salvation Army WCOH

• Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures, and inservice training

• As required and as applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the manager

Client Service Delivery

• Prepare and serve all meals in accordance with menu provided on his/her shift. Menu changes permitted only with the managers’ approval

• Food preparation including but not restricted to: washing, chopping, peeling, mixing, cooking and baking

• Prepare inventory list

• Accepting deliveries from vendors, checking the invoice with products received and store products accordingly

• Ensure that all food donations received on shift are recorded properly on the donation record binder

• Assists in sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen utensils, including tools, containers, fridge, walk in cooler, freezer, both pantry and food holding areas. Ensure that all work areas are clean prior to completion of every meal

• Adhere to proper standards of hygiene and safe handling of foods while performing duties

• Adhere to fire and health and safety standards pertaining to the kitchen and other areas of the Centre

• Adhere to the guidelines of proper food safety at all times

• Ensure that pantry, walk in freezer and fridge are locked prior to end of shift

• Communicate with other kitchen staff effectively and manage volunteers and community service hours workers in the kitchen

• Always keep kitchen walk in cooler, freezer, both pantry and dining room area clean and tidy

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $20.09 to $20.25 with a maximum of $20.40.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
