Job Summary

DEFINITION: Under direction, to do skilled journeyman-level work in the repair and installation of locks on lockers, doors, and cabinets; to make keys; and to do related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Installs and repairs locks and changes lock combinations; repairs and replaces door and closing hardware; opens locks and makes new or duplicate keys; disassembles padlocks, door and safe locks, or other types of lock parts; maintains file and security of master, grandmaster and great grandmaster key systems; repairs panic bars and other exit hardware; furnishes hardware contractors with keying information for new buildings and additions; does engraving of plastic and metal signs and plaques.
