Position Summary:
The Thrift Store Sales Associate supports the daily operations of the Asheville Humane Society Thrift Store. Responsibilities include assisting with the flow and organization of donations, processing sales transactions, and providing excellent customer service to donors, volunteers, and shoppers. The Associate also helps create a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment for all participants and may assist with donation pickups as needed.
Schedule: The Thrift Store Sales Associate is a full-time position (40 hours/week) located at the Asheville Humane Thrift Store. This position has fluctuating working hours depending on scheduling and store needs, and may require weekend availability.
Compensation & Benefits: The compensation for the Thrift Store Sales Associate is $15.50/hour. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent service by assisting customers with inquiries, helping them locate items, and addressing any concerns to ensure a pleasant shopping experience.
- Operate cash registers, handle cash and credit card transactions, and follow proper procedures for sales, returns, and exchanges.
- Accept, sort, and process donated items while ensuring they meet the store's quality standards before being placed on the sales floor.
- Assist with pricing items appropriately, stocking shelves, organizing merchandise displays, and maintaining a clean and organized sales floor to attract customers and promote sales.
- Work effectively with other staff members and volunteers to achieve store goals, maintain a positive work environment, and ensure efficient store operations.
- Assist with donation pickups as needed.
- Keep the store clean and safe by performing routine cleaning tasks, organizing backroom areas, and adhering to safety protocols.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Previous thrift store or retail store experience highly preferred.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and communication skills.
- This position requires the ability to stoop, bend, reach, and lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds (when lifting alone) or 250 pounds (when team lifting).
