POSITION SUMMARY:

The Faculty Member will serve as an Ordained Rostered employee of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis providing theological education and leadership centered in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ for the formation of pastors, missionaries, deaconesses, scholars and leaders in the name of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches courses assigned to the Faculty Member in the areas for which he has been prepared in his education and training
  • Regularly attends daily chapel services and preaches, presides, or assists in chapel as requested
  • Assists and advises students as called upon
  • Maintains regularly posted office hours so as to be available for student consultations
  • Is expected to be engaged outside of the classroom with students, faculty colleagues, and the seminary community, including social and other extra-curricular activities
  • Will attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled faculty meetings
  • As called upon, will serve on various faculty or administrative committees
  • Will actively pursue scholarly and academic research endeavors which are mutually beneficial to both the Seminary and the Faculty Member
  • Prepares both ad hoc and regularly scheduled reports that are reasonably necessary in the performance and administration of the Faculty Member’s duties
  • Teaches courses in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions
  • May be assigned additional administrative roles as outlined in a separate position description

Qualifications


  • Must be a rostered Minister of Religion, ordained in the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and be a member in good standing of an LCMS congregation
  • Have a strong commitment to the Scriptures as the inspired, written Word of God and the Lutheran Confessions as a correct exposition of the Scriptures
  • Must have a demonstrated ability in theological teaching and scholarship
  • Must have an earned Ph.D.
  • Required to serve collegially on a theological faculty, and represent Concordia Seminary to the church
  • Must show demonstrated faithful Lutheran pastoral practice, care and leadership
  • Experienced in cross-cultural settings
  • Must otherwise be qualified as outlined in the LCMS bylaws and the Seminary Faculty Handbook.
