Job Title: Student Academic Tutor (After School Tutoring Program)
Reports: Reports directly to the Site Manager
Supervises: Students enrolled in Afterschool Tutoring
Purpose: The Student Academic Tutor (SAT) assists in the After School Tutoring Program by providing teaching and learning experiences for elementary school age children. SATs must be able to communicate, listen, and work well with others in a team environment while developing their own skillsets as future teachers. SATs must be able to assist in implementing a quality educational program and develop positive relationships with younger students. This position is only open to high school students enrolled or previously enrolled in a teaching as a profession course at Haywood High School.
Performance Responsibilities –Student Academic Tutor
- Always make student learning the top priority and follow the program’s core values.
- Follow all school rules and safety guidelines while on campus.
- Attend training sessions and meetings provided for tutors as scheduled.
- Use simple, clear teaching strategies and materials to help younger students improve their reading, math, and other basic skills.
- Be a positive role model by using respectful communication and maintaining a good attitude.
- Take part in tutoring activities and program events as requested by supervisors.
- Work respectfully and cooperatively with teachers, staff, parents, and other students in the program.
- Keep all student information private and treat materials, equipment, and school property with care.
- Work with individual students or small groups to provide extra help in reading, math, and other subjects as needed.
- Acquire and develop skills advantageous to a future career in education.
- Notify the site manager in advance if you are unable to attend a scheduled tutoring session.
- Complete other reasonable tasks assigned by the site manager or program coordinator.
