Position Summary:
 Sparta High School is seeking a dedicated and flexible Roving Substitute to cover our In-School Suspension (ISS) room for the remainder of the first semester. This role plays a key part in supporting students who are temporarily removed from the classroom setting by maintaining structure, promoting accountability, and helping students stay on track academically and behaviorally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise students assigned to In-School Suspension in a structured, supportive environment.
 - Monitor academic progress and ensure students complete classwork provided by their teachers.
 - Model and reinforce positive behavior, respect, and responsibility.
 - Communicate effectively with teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding student needs and progress.
 - Maintain accurate attendance and behavior documentation.
 - Uphold school-wide expectations and contribute to a positive, restorative school culture.
 
Qualities of a Successful Candidate:
- Patient, calm, and consistent when working with students who may be frustrated or disengaged.
 - Skilled in building rapport and establishing trust with students while maintaining clear boundaries.
 - Able to de-escalate challenging situations and respond with empathy and professionalism.
 - Organized and attentive to detail when managing student assignments and expectations.
 - Collaborative and communicative with school staff to ensure student success.
 - Committed to supporting all students, including those who are struggling academically, socially, or behaviorally.
 
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Substitute Permit required.
 - Prior experience working with adolescents or in a behavioral support/interventionist role preferred.
 - Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
