POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is to support staff development/training. This R.N., along with Charge Nurses, is responsible for orientation, annual competencies, and continual training of all staff in the nursing department as well as clinical students.

Is very familiar with all nursing workflows in all areas of the nursing department (MA, LPN, RN.

Is the super-user with EHR and LMS.

Is the expert in CLIA-waived testing.

REPORTS TO:  Director of Nursing

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR:

  • Maintains a professional environment in a multi-provider, multidiscipline environment.
  • Maintains a patient centered environment including but not limited to:

      Provision of care and advocate for patients of all ages and their families based on prudent nursing judgment and acceptable standards of practice.

  • Performs tasks and procedures within the scope of a registered nurse (R.N.) and legal guidelines of the nurse practice act. Adheres to Board of Nursing regulations.
  • Familiar with staff tasks and workflows in clinical areas.
  • Maintains leadership skills in a professional and objective manner.
  • Gives clear direction and instruction to nursing staff.
  • Objectively evaluates nursing related issues and plans interventions with nursing administration in a positive and appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrates characteristics of accountability and responsibility.
  • Works with the ADON’s, Charge Nurses and Lead Nurses and Medical Assistants to maintain or improve an optimal level of nursing objectives.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Has a very good understanding of the Joint Commission standards, PCMH standards, Department of Public Health regulations and HRSA requirements.
  • Familiar with ACO objectives and workflows and works with staff and nursing administration to carry out these workflows.
  • Maintains a staff training curriculum using online system (LMS) as well as in-person in services and trainings.
  • Maintains a staff training routine for all regulatory standards.
  • Maintains documentation of all training. Analyzes documentation.
  • Evaluates staff training needs with the assistance of nursing administration.
  • Submits reports as needed.

                      New Staff:

*Responsible for orientation of new staff.

Works collaboratively with the nursing team for successful onboarding of staff. Works directly one-on-one with staff when appropriate.                                   

Existing Staff:                                 

Routinely:

  • Performs staff in services and training. records of trainings and post-tests. Evaluates post-tests and revised training/post-tests as needed.                                                                       

Annually:

  • Responsible for coordinating the annual training of all competencies
  • Maintains excellent follow-through on work to completion.
  • Completes work in a timely manner.

                        Routinely/Other:

  1. Equipment – Works with ADON and Charge nurses with training on new equipment.
    1. Training staff on the navigation in the electronic health record (EHR) for proper documentation and location of information.

 

QUALITY ASSURANCE/IMPROVEMENT:

  • Participates in committees and QI when appropriate.
  • Goal Setting – works with nursing department on training/education goals.
  • Works with nursing administration to facilitate new quality initiatives.
  • Participates and assists with ongoing Quality Improvement activities throughout the health center. This includes, but is not limited to conducting Joint Commission tracers, serving on QI teams and committees as needed, and performing data reviews.
  • Assist with ensuring staff compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations .

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a busy community health center in a downtown business district. Long hours are sometimes required. Some travel required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Physical demands requiring lifting of small pieces of equipment, boxes, and/or patients not to exceed forty (40) pounds. Mostly standing and walking required. Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading. Hearing acuity sufficient for holding conversations with or without audio devices.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current state licensure to practice in Massachusetts.
  • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certified.
  • Maintains licensure and certifications.
  • A minimum of five years nursing experience.
  • Bilingual preferred.

MINIMAL KNOWLEDGE BASE:

Demonstrates knowledge of:

  • Nursing principles including disease processes, certain examinations, observations, laboratory studies and appropriately applies these principles to patient care.
  • Very good assessment skills.
  • Nurse practice Act/Code of Ethics.
  • Nursing process.
  • OSHA guidelines.
  • Infection control standards.
  • Emergency procedures.
  • Excellent computer and typing skills.
