We are seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and student-centered School Counselor to join our dedicated educational team. REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
-
Master’s Degree in Counseling/Educational Counseling or Social Work with a minimum of two years working with at risk children and adolescents.
-
Current certification in Therapeutic Options, and the ability to carry out the procedure correctly (training provided during New Hire Orientation and yearly recertification).
-
Current certification in Adult and Child First Aid, CPR, and AED (training provided during New Hire Orientation).
-
Successful completion of Dominion Youth Services’ annual employee trainings (Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPPA, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control, Human Rights, Unlawful Harassment Prevention, Mandated Reporting, Cultural Competency, Defensive Driving, Driver Safety Policy, and Employee Manual)

Successful completion of Child Abuse/Recognition Training
-
Completion of tuberculosis screening within 30 days of employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide individual counseling weekly and as needed.
-
Provide small group counseling weekly to include but not limited to the following topics:
-
Social skills
-
Emotional and Social Awareness
-
Personal Growth & Development
-
Self-esteem
-
Impulse Control
-
Anger Management
-
Maintain a working knowledge of community resources available to students and families and refer out as needed.
-
Update Social Histories.
-
Facilitate staff involvement to ensure the implementation of timely counseling services.
-
Provide accurate and appropriate interpretation of assessment data and the presentation of relevant, unbiased information to faculty and administration.
-
Consult with parents, teachers, administrators and other relevant individuals to meet student needs.
-
Help to develop a strong and positive school culture and serve as a liaison between the school/family/community.
-
Participate in transition planning for students.
-
Provide crisis intervention services as needed.
-
Assume personal responsibility for continued professional development.
-
With support from Administration, maintain professional materials for professional growth and development, including periodicals, books and software.

Maintain accurate and appropriate case records and documentation.
-
Model professional behaviors that contribute to addressing the needs of students, families, and the school community.
