Job Title: Career Preparation Specialist
Reports to: Counseling Manager
Summary
Responsible for delivering counseling services to students during the Career Preparation Specialist.
Essential Functions
1-Provides ongoing structured, scheduled, and documented individual career counseling sessions.
2-Develops Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP) with students and outlines actions necessary to achieve successful placement.
2- Assists in center adjustment and serves as a liaison between students, staff, family, and community services. Assists with students’ arrivals. Confers with parents, Admissions Counselors, CTS, social service agencies, and other community resources to ensure adjustment to the center. Confers with minors’ guardians within 72 hours of arrival on center to discuss students’ initial adjustment to the program.
Provides structured, scheduled, and documented individual social-development and adjustment counseling to all students who are identified as having adjustment issues to the program or are considered to be high risk.
3- Develops a counseling plan to address students’ negative behaviors and a plan to reward positive behavior from the students’ initial enrollment until they transition out of the program.
4- Identifies student’s personal and academic issues so that the appropriate support can be provided.
5- Ensures students’ accountability information, including leaves, attendance, and unauthorized absence (UA) retrieval, is submitted accurately and within established time frames.
6- Maintains contact with all students who are in UA status and does everything to retrieve them from UA.
7- Reviews attendance sheets for accuracy of documentation.
8- Administers students’ Evaluation of Student Progress (ESP) within ePRH and center guidelines. Ensures that each student has an evaluation by their 60th day on center. Ensures that there is a formal evaluation prior to the student’s entry into CDP.
9- Ensures that students develop Career Success Standards (CSS). Provides individual and group lessons or project assignments during and after the training day and on weekends to help students’ master competencies in all standards.
10- Provides accurate documentation of trainee’s matriculation throughout CPP. Ensures that regular communication is documented, including individual and group counseling sessions, UA retrieval efforts, and barriers to successful enrollment.
11- Provides crisis counseling, including pregnancy counseling. Provides prompt resolution of any student’s issues or difficulties.
12- Discusses sexual harassment and fraternization policy with trainees and counsels' behavior as needed.
13- Participates in the Career Mentoring Team (CMT).
14- Provide support to the Career Development Services System (CDSS) department to ensure student job readiness.

Requirements
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree with at least 15 semester hours of instruction in social services–related instruction
One year’s experience in counseling or a related field
Certifications/Competencies
CPR/First Aid certifications
Above-average public speaking skills and experience in the same
Above-average verbal, written, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
Computer literacy; specifically the internet, email, and Microsoft Suites
