Finance employees receive, account for, monitor, and design internal controls to safeguard sacred funds (donated confidentially in obedience to God's commandments) for the Church's religious mission under the direction of senior ecclesiastical leaders.

Tax employees help Church organizations and ecclesiastical leaders remain compliant with current tax laws and required tax reporting, which helps safeguard sacred funds for the Church's religious mission that is under the direction of senior ecclesiastical leaders.  

This manager position works with senior leaders in the Church's Tax Division to develop and implement the organization's tax strategy and helps manage aspects of the organization's tax reporting function.

Responsibilities

This role will combine an understanding of Church organization, culture, and interests with expert industry-level technical expertise. This role reviews and submits tax related documents or filings, which may include federal, state, or local tax returns, declarations, reconciliations or extensions. Prepares tax planning reports and estimates the organization's tax obligations. Advises senior management on strategies for minimizing the organization's tax liabilities. Stays abreast of tax code changes and ensures ongoing compliance. Leads the work of a team of income tax accounts and/or applicable support staff. Has authority to make personnel decisions related to hiring, performance, or disciplinary actions. Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures but may have some impact on  strategic planning and procedural change. Typically reports to a Senior Income Tax manager or other senior manager.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business management, or related field.
  • 7 years of applicable work experience.
  • Possesses expert working knowledge of income tax issues.
  • Has a current CPA.
  • Possesses ability to lead and develop employees and build effective teams and foster teamwork.
  • Ability to drive strategic direction. 
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills, analytical thinking skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Is detail oriented.
  • Has excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Has solid computer, word processing, and database management skills.
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment.

Preferred: 

  • Master's degree in applicable field.
