Position Specific Summary
The Engineering Project Manager position at the City of Tucson’s Department of Transportation & Mobility is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering technology-driven transportation projects that improve mobility, safety, and efficiency for the traveling public. This position oversees the development, deployment, and maintenance of ITS infrastructure such as traffic signal systems, adaptive signal control, connected vehicle applications, traveler information systems, and smart mobility initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, and manages intelligent transportation systems projects including traffic signal systems, adaptive signal control, communication networks, connected vehicle technologies, and traveler information systems.
Prepares project scopes, schedules, budgets, cost estimates, and procurement documents.
Administers consultant and contractor contracts; monitors performance and compliance with terms and conditions.
Coordinates with internal departments, regional agencies, utility providers, and state and federal partners to ensure integration and consistency with transportation programs.
Reviews plans, specifications, and technical documents to ensure compliance with standards, codes, and project requirements.
Oversees testing, integration, and acceptance of ITS systems and infrastructure.
Prepares reports, technical memoranda, grant applications, and presentations to elected officials, stakeholders, and the public.
Monitors system operations and evaluates effectiveness; recommends modifications to improve safety, mobility, and efficiency.
Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in transportation systems and smart mobility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degreee
Experience: Three (3) years of relevant experience
Equivalency: Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
License/Certifications: Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
Experience with connected and automated vehicle technologies, fiber optic and wireless communication systems, or smart city applications.
Prior work experience in a municipal, county, or state government agency.
Experience securing and managing state and federal grant funds.
