About the Department

Whatcom County is currently recruiting for a Records Assistant in the Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
This position performs specialized tasks assisting the County’s Public Records Officer with countywide records management and responding to public records requests balancing team and individual responsibilities with minimal supervision and within scope of established guidelines.Essential Job Duties Include:
- Assists with storage and destruction of forms and records in the County Records Center, as directed. Contributes to the maintenance of an accurate inventory of records in the Records Center.
- Provides backup tasks associated with but not limited to countywide mail services and service desk services.
- Maintains a comprehensive records program to comply with state laws, regulations, good business practices, and principles of records management and control. Develops and/or implements manual and/or computerized systems and procedures for record tracking and control, filing and retrieval, indexing, retention scheduling, storage, disposal and micro graphics.
- Researches, collects and analyzes complex or diverse information and data. Identifies problems and recommends alternative solutions for resolution.
- Provides necessary information for the progress and completion of projects.
- May train temporary staff and others as needed in the use and location of electronic and/or hard copy records, assists with research and an analysis of user needs.
- Identifies customer needs, explains services clearly and promptly responds to requests. Conducts searches, advises and assists staff members and the public to research records, physically locate, and makes copies of documents as needed.

Hours of work: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Friday
Salary Range: $21.89 - $33.17 MCBA- Range 109.0
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a high school diploma or GED AND two years of courses in records management, business and engineering technology or related fields AND two years of records management, library, or electronic records experience in a large records center.
- Requires an Associate’s Degree AND one year of records management, library, or electronic records experience in a large records center.
- Experience must involve the research, interpretation and maintenance of public records.
- Background check must meet County criteria for security sensitive position at time of hire and throughout employment.
