CLASS TITLE: Migrant Tutor/Recruiter
REPORTS TO: District Migrant Coordinator and Migrant Advocate
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under direction of the Migrant Advocate and District Migrant Coordinator, the Migrant Tutor will support instruction to individual students in a home or a classroom setting. All programs, both classroom and home based, will focus on preparing students to successfully meet state academic standards.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Ability to recruit and identify migrant and immigrant students and families and to coordinate the delivery of educational services.
 - Assist migrant students in the development of their academic skills.
 - Assist students in meeting academic content standards for their grade level.
 - Provide instructional tutoring in the home of the students identified if necessary.
 - Organize and maintain schedule of student and parent contacts.
 - Communicate with the students’ classroom teachers to identify their academic needs.
 - Communicate with parents and teachers regarding students’ academic progress.
 - Attend training on how to enhance the development of the academic skills of migrant students.
 - Attend all Migrant in-services and meetings as required.
 - Maintain records and submit reports in an accurate and timely manner.
 - Be a resource for the migrant students regarding other learning opportunities.
 - Maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times towards migrant children, parents, staff, and community members.
 - Provide a safe, stable environment conducive to the development of the children’s concept of self and positive attitudes towards learning.
 - Exercise supervision and care over all furniture, books, supplies, and equipment entrusted to his/her care.
 - Maintain confidentiality regarding information concerning children and families.
 - Operate a motor vehicle.
 - Be able to make or assist with presentations to the public.
 - Conduct student assessments.
 - Perform other duties as required.
 
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Federal regulations pertaining to the migrant education program.
 - Correct oral and written usage of English.
 - Oral and written communication skills.
 - Public speaking techniques.
 - Laws, rules, and regulations related to assigned activities.
 - Applicable sections of the Kentucky Administrative Regulations and other applicable laws.
 - Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
 
ABILITY TO:
- Read, write, translate, and interpret English and Spanish.
 - Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
 - Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
 - Maintain routine records.
 - Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements, and restrictions.
 - Plan, organize and establish priorities related to assignment.
 - Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
 - Work independently and make decisions with minimum supervision.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
 - Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing.
 - Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
 - Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
 - Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 64 college hours or higher.
 - Bi-lingual language skills are highly preferred.
 - Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
 - Proven ability to work effectively with students.
 - Proven ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty.
 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 185-day flexible calendar. Salary determined by the adopted classified salary schedule of the Nicholas County Board of Education. Some evening/weekend work required for recruiting purposes.
