The base pay scale for this position is $37.96 - $37.96. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.What you will be doing
The Hospital Painter is responsible for painting, finishing, and maintaining the surfaces of walls, ceilings, structures, and equipment within the healthcare facility. This position ensures that all work complies with hospital cleanliness, safety, and infection control standards. The painter will work independently or as part of the maintenance team to ensure a safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, prime, and paint interior and exterior surfaces of the hospital, including walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and equipment.
- Make general repairs which include minor carpentry, light framing, sheet rock repairs, wall covering, and wall guard installation.
- Perform surface preparation including sanding, filling holes/cracks, patching drywall, caulking, and removing old paint or wallpaper.
- Apply paint and finishes using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and ensure proper containment to minimize disruption and airborne particles, especially in patient care areas.
- Adhere strictly to infection control protocols and departmental policies during painting activities.
- Move furniture and protect non-painted surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape.
- Inspect painted surfaces for touch-ups and perform follow-up as needed.
- Maintain painting equipment and supplies in good working order.
- Collaborate with other facilities staff and departments to schedule work with minimal disruption to hospital operations.
- Ensure compliance with hospital safety, environmental, and hazardous materials handling policies.
- Attention to detail: Essential for ensuring work is done properly and for navigating the unique challenges of a healthcare environment.
- Flexability: Adaptability to change daily activities based on hospital needs; flood control, snow removal duty
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of professional painting experience; healthcare or institutional painting experience preferred.
- Knowledge of paints, stains, surface preparation techniques, plastering, and tools.
Skills & Competencies:
- Familiarity with infection prevention and control standards in healthcare settings.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Skilled in the safe operation of painting tools and equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and finishing work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed throughout various hospital areas, including patient care zones, sometimes during off-hours or weekends to minimize disruption.
- May require use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and working in confined spaces or on ladders/lifts.
- Exposure to paint fumes, chemicals, and cleaning agents.
Schedule:
- Full-Time
- Shift times Tues-Saturday 5:30AM to 1:30PM, with occasional weekends or evenings as needed
