Position Summary:  

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Controller to lead MDpanel’s accounting operations. This role is critical to ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical accounting expertise, experience in a services-based business, and a strong understanding of the dynamics of a private equity-backed environment.


Work setting:   

The controller position will be remote, with some expected travel to our offices in California. 


Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead all accounting operations including GL, AP/AR, payroll, billing, cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements.
  • Develop and manage internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance frameworks.
  • Partner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Oversee tax filings and coordinate external audits.
  • Implement and optimize accounting systems and software tools to support automation and scalability.
  • Provide strategic financial insights to cross-functional teams and executive leadership.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and growth.


Qualifications and Preferred Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA.
  • 6-8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
  • Big 4 public accounting experience highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in a private equity-backed company is a strong plus.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and familiarity with US GAAP.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial data for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
