The YMCA Aquatic Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the aquatic department, specifically working with lifeguards and swim instructors to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and high-quality experience for all members and participants. This role includes supervising staff, managing schedules, assisting in swim lesson programs, and ensuring the safety of all pool patrons. The Aquatic Coordinator will work closely with the Aquatic Director to support aquatic programs growth and maintain compliance with YMCA standards.
Essential Functions

Promote and incorporate the YMCA four core values and character development model in all program activities.

Enforce pool rules, regulations and follow procedures set out in the YMCA of South Palm Beach County Aquatic Policy and Procedure Manual.

Maintain aquatic center, pools and locker room area according to National YMCA and Palm Beach County Health Codes.

Assist in the interviewing, testing and hiring process of staff.

Oversee the direct service of aquatic staff, including staff scheduling, class organization and implementation. Ensure all shifts and classes are adequately covered. Will act as sub, if needed.

Promote aquatic programs.

Attend all staff meetings, focus meetings and scheduled in-service trainings.

Assist with Lifeguard and/or instruct courses as needed.

Assist in YMCA Annual Campaign activities and special events.

Provide excellent customer service by addressing member inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a professional and timely manner.

Provide administrative support to the Aquatics Director in all facets of the aquatics program, including the swim team.

Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program.

Maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.

Conduct and ensure proper maintenance of pools.

Maintain accurate records of staff certifications
-
Work with Community Outreach Drowning Prevention Coordinator on delivering programs.

Conduct lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.

Create and schedule swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets.

Must be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Perform other related work as required.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field preferred.

A minimum of 1-2 years of aquatic supervisory experience preferred.

Minimum age of 21.

Certification Required (required within six months of hire if not current):
-
Lifeguard Certification (YMCA or Red Cross).
-
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, And AED certification.
-
Oxygen Management certification.
-
Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or YMCA Swim Instructor (YSL) certification.

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or equivalent preferred, or obtained within one year of hire.

YSL Trainer and Y Lifeguard Trainer certifications obtained within one year of hire date.
