Job Summary:

Monitors and ensures the staff delivers services and maintains records according to the set standards. Manages assigned personnel involved in establishing, promoting, and maintaining security and property protection programs either personally or through subordinate supervisors. Implements guidelines for assigned areas.

Job Duties:

Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Coordinates security staff efforts in providing safety for employees and patients in the health care setting. Provides training to security staff on programs specific to security missions and documentation of investigations for violations of policy and criminal investigations. Provides standardized training to assure uniform performance for security personnel throughout the Health Care System. Reviews incident reports and ensures security logs, documents, and files related to investigations and other activities relevant to facility security are maintained within established guidelines. Oversees investigations within health care facilities, evaluates information, and forwards to supervisor. Coordinates tracking, maintenance, and use of tribal and federal equipment assigned to security personnel. Reviews unauthorized access into Health Services facilities and determines corrective action(s). Restrains rowdy, belligerent, violent, intoxicated, and emotionally disturbed patients and visitors through the use of non-violent crisis intervention or by the use of force if necessary for the purpose of treatment or incarceration. Establishes operational procedures for activities such as guarding and patrolling physical property, orienting, and monitoring of personnel. Monitors overall safety issues, notifies appropriate personnel on corrective action(s). Coordinates training by identifying, communicating, and developing results from security needs within the Health Care System. Reviews traffic flow and parking areas, makes recommendations on improvement as appropriate. Confers with management to formulate policies. Other duties may be assigned.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES   

Directly supervises 15-30 employees in Health Services. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT 

Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university; or six years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT 

An additional three (3) years of experience in a related field.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should have knowledge of Database, Internet, and Word Processing software and Order processing, Payroll, and Human Resource systems.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.  Possess and maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or must obtain within ninety (90) days of hire. Once hired Defensive Tactics and Taser recertification shall be attended on an annual basis. Must possess the basic CLEET or FLETC certification for unarmed or armed security and maintain throughout employment. Must complete continuing education units/requirements. May possess certification of security training awarded by the U.S. Armed Forces.

 

Armed Security Only:

 

Must possess the basic CLEET certification for armed security and maintain throughout employment. Must obtain a Commission card from Cherokee Nation Marshall Services for authorization to carry a firearm on Cherokee Nation property.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

None required.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must comply with Cherokee Nation Health Services Policies and Procedures. Working knowledge is also required of the general health care safety policy. Must have completed OSHA safety and Emergency Management Disaster Training.

 

Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care. 

 

Armed Security Only:

Must meet and maintain periodic background adjudication for law enforcement.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
