Maintenance Specialist III - HVAC presso Glendora Unified School District

Under the direction of the Chief of Facilities, Maintenance and Operations, participates in the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of manual and computer-aided mechanical or industrial electrical systems, electrical controls, ventilation, and automated and manual air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating systems. Operates environmental control systems for heating, air conditioning and handling, and interior and exterior lighting.

Education and Experience: - Any combination equivalent to: an Associate’s Degree or equivalent vocational program in Energy Management, Industrial Technology, or related field and four (4) years of progressive experience. Training in an industrial, commercial or military setting or experience in the electrical and mechanical maintenance fields may substitute for some higher education. Licenses and other Requirements: - Valid California Driver’s License. - May require First-Aid/ CPR Certification - Appropriate certification in the area of specialization for handling and recycling of refrigerants. Work Environment: - Work is performed indoors and outdoors where significant health and safety considerations exist from physical labor and handling of materials. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Maintain air handlers. With guidance from a Maintenance Specialist IV or from standing manufacturers’ instructions, tighten, adjust, repair, replace, and calibrate boilers, chillers, cooling towers, variable frequency drives, motor control contactors, pumps, etc. - Perform preventive maintenance on high voltage switchgear, irrigation pumps, walk-in freezers, and cafeteria equipment, as they relate to HVAC or related equipment. - Assist with and may fabricate and install ductwork, airflow systems, condensers, refrigeration. Remove old equipment and refrigerants according to applicable laws and safety standards. - Administer building energy management systems by assisting with installation of computer-aided controls, digital building HVAC equipment controllers, drives and volume boxes, data communications cabling, and other devices. - Perform routine electrical repairs and maintenance duties. Adjust, repair or replace motors, heaters, switchgear and other electrical apparatus. - Test, adjust and calibrate boiler and air conditioning machinery and mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic control instruments. Test and, as required, chemically treat boiler, condenser and cooling tower water and water from other systems. - Respond to reports of heating or cooling problems, suspicious odors, electrical problems, refrigeration problems, and other urgent situations. Receive information on problems and forwards to HVAC Specialists. - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of indoor air quality standards and compliance requirements. Confer with others to recommend and evaluate heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and energy management infrastructure for new and remodeled facilities. - Participate with the Maintenance Specialist – Electrician on assignments as needed. Perform generalist maintenance work.
