Prepares and cooks meals; plans menus; orders supplies; and maintains cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas. Assists with nutrition for staff, children, and families as requested.
Job Duties:Travels to local grocery store to purchase items needed for menus for the week. Submits purchase orders to food vendor monthly for bulk items needed for food service. Keeps all records and files needed for food submission to Food Services Manager on a weekly basis. Must keep CACFP (Child and Adult Food Care Program) records on meals served and amounts of food used on a daily basis for submission to be included in the CACFP claim report on a monthly basis. Responsible for labeling and storage of all food items brought into the center. Stores all foodstuffs to reduce deteriorations and/or infestations. Assists with monitoring consumption of menu items to assist with menu planning for the upcoming year to avoid waste when items on the menu are not consumed. Responsible for providing monthly nutrition activities for parents at parent meetings. Responsible for assisting teachers in providing monthly nutrition activities for children to go along with unit being studied. Cooks foodstuffs in quantities according to menu and number of persons to be served. Washes dishes and keeps work area neat and sanittized. Cleans floors counters, tables, applicance and other equipment acoording to standard practices. Bakes breads and pastries according to menus. Serves meals and sits with classroom staff and children during meal times. Orders supplies and keeps records and accounts. Trains volunteers and other employees assigned to kitchen or dining areas. Assists in the classroom as need to fill ratio when requested by the supervisor. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsiblities.
Qualifications:EDUCATION/REQUIREMENT
High school education; or general education degree (GED).
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least one year experience in a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLS
An individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must obtain a Food Handlers Card and be certified in CPR and first aid within 6 weeks of employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Must have the ability to operate a calculator and computer. Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
