The City of Greer is currently accepting applications for a Recruiting Sergeant in our Police Department.
Responsibilities: Supervises designated shift personnel which involves instructing, assigning, reviewing, and planning work of others, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, acting on employee problems, motivating officers toward goals, recommending disciplinary actions, and conducting performance appraisals. Design/update recruiting strategies in accordance with national recruitment and retention research and best practices, develop recruitment programs and events, develop professional relationships with professors, community stakeholders, military personnel and others to attract and expand a diverse pool of applicants. Work in partnership with human resources in the selection and hiring process through the development of job-related interviews, oral panels and assessment exercises, coordinate and assist with background investigation process, and assist with internal promotional assessments and processes. Participate in speaking opportunities and presentations and provide exceptional customer service to individuals interested in applying for employment and while in process of being hired. Listen and maintain communication with employees to stay abreast of employee concerns and moral, access the need for and create recommendations concerning process improvement and efficiencies, and maintain routine communication with Command Staff concerning recruitment and selection status as well as retention improvements. Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed. Performs duties relating to court obligations including appearing in court as needed. Utilizes various types of equipment and machinery such as radio, computer, fax machine, communications equipment, vehicle, camera, calculator, weapons, various police equipment, and various office supplies. Refers to policy and procedure manuals, codes, regulations, laws, maps, statutes, training manuals, supply catalogs, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the Lieutenant, coworkers, subordinates, other City employees, other law enforcement agency personnel, other government agencies, attorneys, court personnel, complainants, victims, witnesses, suspects, the public, and the Police Chief. Performs general administrative office work as required, including attending and conducting meetings, reviewing mail, preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, sending and receiving faxes, etc.
Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, police science, law or related field. Three (3) years of experience in law enforcement at the rank of Corporal; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer with the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm; additional hours as needed
Salary: Minimum salary $67,978 a year, dependent on experience.
