A DAY IN THE LIFE
The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operational needs of the environmental laboratory. This role ensures that the facility and laboratory environment are well-maintained, compliant with safety standards, and fully stocked with necessary supplies. The coordinator will manage facility services, oversee consumables inventory, coordinate equipment maintenance, and support lab staff in achieving efficient and safe operations.
- Coordinate and oversee maintenance, repairs, and calibration of lab equipment.
- Monitor and manage inventory of laboratory consumables (e.g., gloves, pipette tips, solvents, sample containers), ensuring timely ordering and restocking to support uninterrupted lab operations.
- Act as the primary point of contact for vendors and service providers (e.g., equipment service, waste disposal, janitorial services).
- Conduct regular facility and safety inspections to proactively identify and address maintenance or compliance issues. Lead contact for emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations and internal protocols.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage, labeling, and disposal scheduling.
- Track and document maintenance records, safety inspections, supply usage, and service logs.
- Assist with facility-related projects such as equipment installation, space planning, and renovations.
- Manage access control systems and issue lab badges/keys to personnel.
- Maintains cleanliness of lab garments, including collection, laundering, and restocking of lab coats.
- Completes ad hoc courier and storage room deliveries as assigned, ensuring items are transported safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with lab teams and management to anticipate facility and consumable needs.
- All other duties as assigned
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent work experience in facilities or lab operations considered.
- 2+ years of relevant experience in facilities coordination, preferably in a laboratory or technical environment.
- Understanding of laboratory consumables, equipment, and environmental lab operations.
- Familiarity with EHS standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and vendor management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and facility tracking systems.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in an environmental or analytical laboratory.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and chemical inventory systems.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or facilities ticketing software.
