Responsible for performing welding, cutting, assembly, and repair per engineering drawings, blueprints, written instructions, or industry standards. Combines knowledge of welding technology with mechanical technology for the cutting, prepping, joining, assembling, and repair of parts or systems. Works with design and production engineers to solve problems in support of product development and production line work. Maintain and repairs welding and welding support equipment. Design and construct specialized jigs, parts, and fixtures required to facilitate production welding in both a shop and field environment. Tasks will be performed independently or with limited supervisor guidance.
Working Procedure:
- Proficient in GTAW processes and resent aluminum production welding experience, IAW AWS D 1.2 & D17.1 or equivalent standards.
- Efficient with FCAW to AWS D1.1 or equivalent standards.
- Knowledge of SMAW and GMAW processes IAW AWS D1.1 or equivalent standards.
- Experience with material traceability IAW contractual and company requirements.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Set up welding machines and associated equipment (i.e., purge equipment, gas mixers, etc) in accordance with Weld Specification Procedures, or, in the absence of a specified procedure based on direction of the Engineer or the job at hand.
- Prepare and clean surfaces and special parts for welding.
- Use torches, saws, or other methods to cut and prepare parts for welding.
- Conduct fit-up in accordance with specifications and standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints or drawings to determine specific welding requirements. Provide feedback to and collaborate with Engineering to correct drawings that do not meet required specifications.
- Select the appropriate process and weld steel, aluminum, and/or stainless-steel components in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions based on the WPS, and specifications provided in blueprints and drawings.
- Perform difficult welding and fabrication assignments to include assisting with quote generation and prototyping.
- Design and manufacture specialized parts, jigs, and fixtures necessary to support the production process.
- Create and help maintain Weld Procedure Specifications.
- Help maintain your own weld qualification records as well as the qualification records of lower rated welders.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on welding and welding support equipment.
- Operate metal working machinery, including CNC Waterjet, CNC Press Brakes, and band saws, and drill presses, used in the production process or assist machinery operators as assigned.
- Works independently while coordinating through and with Team Leader/Supervisor, to meet the objective established by management.
- Interpret instructions, written and oral, on all aspects of assigned duties.
- Read manufacturing outlines, read technical drawings per ASME Y14.100-2004.
- Understand technical operating, service, or repair manuals.
- Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings — Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
- Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates — Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
- Receive and follow all company policies, such as health, safety, morale, and company reporting and material control procedures.
- Evaluate and recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of a product.
- Develop and train lower classified employees as required.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent, plus two years of formal technical training (via military or civilian technical schools), or equivalent experience, is required.
Experience Requirement: Twelve years of GTAW welding experience, demonstrated competence in multiple welding processes and standards.
