The focus of the student worker paraprofessional in the Architectural (ARCH) Program at Minneapolis Community and Technical College is to retain at risk students who specifically struggle in the program due to the following two factors: 1) Poor computer skills and technical knowledge, 2) hesitancy to ask for assistance or build a rapport with the program and other students. This position will work directly with the faculty in helping create and implement tactics to identify which students are struggling with use of software and identify students who are struggling with the needed computer skills to use the software successfully. They will also provide regular tutoring and hold live sessions to address student concerns in real time.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least two to three years of post-secondary education and must be in good academic standing
Must be enrolled at a credit granting institution or at a non-credit granting institution and must be carrying at least six semester (nine quarter) credits - must be in good academic standing
If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, the student must be taking two or more classes per semester / quarter
Interest in working directly with students and learning about Minneapolis College Career Services programming and services
Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency, incorporates culturally responsive practices, and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities
Proficient with computer technology including Microsoft Office, e-mail, on-line databases, and internet
Ability to take initiative to achieve tasks independently, but also work effectively as a team member
Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to set priorities, balance a workload, adhere to a schedule, and meet deadlines
Salary Range: $17.84 - $20.89 per hour
Other Requirements
Must be in good standing with Minneapolis College.
Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)
Monday - Friday, between 8:00am -5:00pm with evenings as needed. Hours are flexible based on lab schedule.
