The Costumes Technical Construction Designer will establish garment construction guidelines and write technical documents for the production cut and sew team for all Sight and Sound Theatre costumes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Determines technical construction instructions in collaboration with Costumes Technical Development Designer, to ensure efficient manufacturing process and successful final look is achieved
  • Writes technical documents (spec sheets) for high volume of costume pieces, maintains thorough documentation and detailed style history information; plans and leads or oversees project roll outs for cut and sew production team
  • Troubleshoots garment assembly challenges through strong expertise in costume engineering and uses clear and precise communication of those details; acts as decision maker and galvanizer for problem solving for production operation, in conjunction with the Sample Makers and Technical Team
  • Strongly contributes to the creative technical concepting needed to build worn special projects and accessories on a grand theatrical scale, including armor and leather pieces, hats and headwear, crowns and jewelry pieces, and special effects as directed by Story Producers and Costume Designers and in collaboration with other creative teams within the greater production team (including Props Lighting and Shop teams)

Prerequisites: 

  • Strong collaborative problem solving skills needed, with the ability to foster decision making and guide consistency to maintain excellence in application within a highly creative and diverse team structure
  • Strong experience in Adobe InDesign desired, with working knowledge of Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Able to maintain accurate documentation and clearly distribute detailed information in a rapid pace environment
  • Possess a strong orientation to highly detailed and consistently accurate work, with strong memory skills needed
