Under general supervision, works across Technology Services groups, county departments, and external stakeholders to align technology with organizational needs and strategic objectives, while serving as a project or program manager for multiple technology initiatives; and performs related duties as required.

About Technology Services

The mission of Technology Services is to utilize and develop effective and innovative technology solutions to help Washoe County and surrounding regions in providing and sustaining a safe, secure, and healthy community. To meet this mission, Technology Services created a technology plan focused on enhanced citizen experience, operational effectiveness, cybersecurity, and business continuity. The plan is aligned with the County’s priorities and to the County’s vision to be the social, economic, and policy leader in the region. 


Technology Services is made up of five divisions with 92 employees: Administration, Business Systems and Integration (BSI), Regional Services (RS), Client Engagement and Experience (CEE), and Customer and Enterprise Solutions (CES). This position works with all divisions on public safety projects for the County’s public departments and many external constituents.

Position Duties

Four years of experience in information technology project planning, development, and implementation AND a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in information technology or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
 
License Or Certificate
A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.


About the position:
The Technology Coordinator for Geographic Information Systems (GIS Coordinator) operates within the Regional Services Division of Technology Services, under the direct supervision of the Regional Services IT Manager. Washoe County operates a centralized Enterprise GIS with distributed GIS expertise in various departments. Washoe County’s GIS technology infrastructure and data are a critical component in the daily operations of many County departments. Similarly, GIS staff provide data, application development, and analysis services for high profile projects and critical systems around the County. The GIS Coordinator is instrumental in managing all aspects of Washoe County’s Enterprise GIS including supervision of seven GIS developer/analysts. The GIS Coordinator will also manage project tasks and budgets, negotiate contracts, and ensure the integrity of various systems that rely on geospatial data. Furthermore, the role requires effective communication and collaboration with various departments, external agencies, and vendors to guarantee timely project completion and the ongoing maintenance of our GIS.

  • Have extensive experience with managing and maintaining critical GIS datasets and services.
  • Have experience developing and executing strategic plans for enterprise Geographic Information Systems.

Minimum Qualifications

The Washoe County Employees Association (WCEA) Supervisory Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) covers the Technology Coordinator position.

  
Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
 
Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation. Effective January 1, 2025, the $39.00 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.


Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.


Washoe County hires all new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range and eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.  Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
