The Airfreight Supervisor will supervise both import and export product teams for his/her assigned area of responsibility. He / She will be responsible for that team’s product compliance, quality outcomes to internal and external stakeholders, volume and revenue growth, yield, operating efficiency, with a specific focus on productivity and quality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as a liaison between the client, vendors and government agencies
- Actively pursues feedback from team members and customers to identify opportunities to increase service levels, productivity, and profitability
- Acts as senior product subject matter expert
- Analyzes service failures across multiple departments and actions or escalates findings to ensure their timely resolution and preventative measures are being taken (i.e. billing discrepancies, claims, delays…etc)
- Controls commercial documentation required for export or import declaration and other regulatory agencies or requirements (AES, DPS, Hazmat, AMS)
- Manages and addresses all escalations in regards to file and shipment profitability - audit and identify files with loss or low margin and work with product management, sales, pricing and their own team members to determine root cause and implement corrective action
- Monitors, assigns, and ensures the resolution of any accounts payable issues within area of responsibility
- Provides management with objective feedback regarding vendor performance levels, escalates issues in a timely manner to ensure best level of service
- Responsible for the export compliance including Denied Party Screening and AES filing
- Responsible for the resolution of external billing disputes and collections ensuring their timely resolution
- Measures, analyzes, and improves external or internal KPIs for area of responsibility
- Sets up estimated cost and revenue charges based on customer quotations or established contract rates
- Ensures that all commercial documentation required for import customs clearance purposes are available and coordinates with both external and internal parties in case of discrepancies
- Assigns tasks as required to internal departments based on the nature of the request
- Ensures that customer standard operating procedures (CSOPs) are developed and maintained in conjunction with Account Management and Sales
- Coordinates special booking requests (hazardous, oversize)
- Identifies and communicates potential customer leads to Sales
- Assists management by proactively providing input on talent acquisition, re-assignment, demotion, and promotion
- Conducts regular employee performance review meetings and sets performance goals to drive employee development
- Manages staffing levels based on business development, peak volume periods, department performance metrics, and employee vacations
- Ensures all assigned employees are trained, certified, and re-certified periodically on internal and external standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements
- Validates department staff understand and comply with customer and company standard operating procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position supervises up to five employees and may supervise temporary employees from time to time based on projects.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Preferred to have either an Associate’s Degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirement
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum five years of experience in an airfreight import export role required
- Two years of prior experience in a supervisory role preferred
- Completion of any industry related course is an asset
