Internship conversion position for the Energy Technology Department. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Batteries are a critical part of space vehicle design. Understanding battery performance and degradation characteristics can help inform mission capabilities and life.
- You will work with battery scientists to fabricate specialty electrochemical test cells for performance evaluation (cycling, AC impedance, calorimetry, etc.) and perform physical and chemical analysis of materials (spectroscopy and microscopy techniques).
- You will also be analyzing, organizing, and summarizing test data
- You will assist in laboratory improvement planning and development, including identifying new lab capabilities, preparing procurement specifications, and performing capability integration.
- Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed
- Training and mentorship will be provided

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university program Chemistry, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months)
- Prior internship at The Aerospace Corporation
- 0-1 year of industry work experience
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Experience in any of the following: battery testing/cycling, battery fabrication or materials research, battery modeling, or other electrochemical research
- Experience with data processing/visualization software such as Python, Origin, Tableau, or Microsoft Excel
- This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
- Active security clearance
- Experience with commercial battery cyclers and potentionstats, such as Gamry, Arbin or Maccor
- Experience with chemical analysis techniques, such as SEM, XRD, or Raman, and with electrochemical methods, such as impedance spectroscopy
- Experience with solid-state battery research
