School Bus Aide

Description

In accordance with the needs of the ages of the population served by ABA Support Services LLC, we are seeking a caring and responsible school bus aide to assist a special needs student while being transported to and from school and school sponsored activities.


The ideal candidate will help ensure a safe, orderly and positive environment on the school bus, supporting both the student and the school bus driver.


Critical features of this position are described under the headings below but can be subject to change at the discretion of ABA Support Services, and the Management Team.  The job description reflects the designation of essential job functions but does not provide an all-inclusive list of duties that may be assigned.

  • Assist client(s) in achieving success providing support in social and physical needs as required.
  • Provide appropriate behavior supports as communicated by your supervisor.
  • Utilize safe and appropriate handling, management and guidance procedures when transporting or working with clients.
  • Provide direct client care following the prescribed behavioral protocols/programs.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist student in boarding and exiting the bus safely

- Secure seat belts, car seats, safety harnesses and other applicable safety mechanisms as required

- Maintain student safety during transit

- Provide supervision and support to student

- Communicate respectfully and effectively with student, guardian(s), staff

- Report any instances of behavioral or safety concerns to ABASS and the appropriate school contact immediately

- Assist student during emergency evacuation and drills


Hours are 7:40 AM to 8:45 AM and 2:10 PM to 3:15 PM - Monday through Friday.

Requirements
  • Must have own transportation.
  • Must provide proof of vehicle registration and insurance card.
  • Must check email correspondence daily.
  • Must pass all required background checks per ABASS, state and/or school district policy.
  • Previous experience working in a reputable clinic, home, or school program is highly desirable.
  • 1 year clinical/home/school experience providing direct services to children with Autism, training parents, and supervising staff in the implementation of intervention protocols, is highly desired.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Motivated, excellent work ethic, high degree of quality work and work with minimal direction; must be flexible and patient.
  • Ability to maintain composure and positive interaction with student.
  • A High School Diploma, or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to assist students physically if needed (lifting up to 50 lbs)
  • Ability to sit, stand and move in confined spaces for extended periods
