The Homer L. Dodge Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a full time, tenure track Assistant Professor appointment in theoretical Condensed Matter Physics (CMP), with an expected start in August 2026. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

About us: Our department has active research groups in Astronomy and Astrophysics; Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics; High Energy Physics; and CMP. OU hosts the Center for Quantum Research and Technology, an interdisciplinary research initiative established by support from donor endowments and the university. Existing research efforts at OU include the following: Quantum, Topological, and Strongly-Correlated Materials; Ultracold Atoms, Molecules, and Gases; Microelectronic, Photonic, and Quantum Devices; Quantum Optics; Precision Spectroscopy; and Quantum Information and Entanglement.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, post Ph.D. research experience, and a demonstrated record of research accomplishments evidenced by a publication record that shows creativity, promise of future research contributions, and/or an ongoing externally funded research program. Research areas of preferred interest include the following: Fundamentals of Quantum Materials and Systems, Quantum Information Technology, and the converging areas of CMP and Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. A successful applicant must show potential to teach effectively at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

 

The department enjoys a friendly and supportive work environment, and the successful applicant is expected to contribute to this environment and to collaborate with other members of the department, directly or indirectly. The teaching load is one course each semester.
