RESPONSIBILITIES:
Summary:
The Manager of Regulatory Compliance, Environmental, Sustainability is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs that ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; driving environmental and sustainability initiatives; and overseeing PFAS (polyfluoroalkyl substances) management strategies. This role partners with internal teams, external agencies, and stakeholders to ensure adherence to evolving regulatory requirements, advance the company’s sustainability goals, and reduce environmental risks
Main tasks: (Other duties will be assigned as required)
Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor and interpret current and emerging environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations, including PFAS-specific rules, and assess their impact on operations.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, OSHA, DOT, state environmental agencies).
- Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare and submit required permits, reports, and regulatory filings.
- Drive emerging regulatory guidance through various portals with continuous efforts to design develop Burkert US portal
Environmental Management
- Oversee environmental programs, including air, water, waste, hazardous materials, and chemical management.
- Lead audits, inspections, and corrective actions to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Manage environmental monitoring, data collection, and reporting.
- Develop strategies to minimize environmental footprint and manage environmental risks.
- Support local and state agencies to drive collaborative initiatives and manage emerging environmental opportunities
Sustainability
- Lead corporate sustainability initiatives, including greenhouse gas reduction, energy management, water conservation, and waste minimization.
- Establish sustainability performance metrics and track progress against company goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability into operations, supply chain, and product design.
- Communicate sustainability progress internally and externally (e.g., CSRD/ESG reporting).
- Represent Burkert USA on various local, state, academic boards to drive sustainability efforts and partnerships
- Manage and drive ongoing development of Burkert US Green Team+ and collaboration efforts with all functions
PFAS Program Management
- Develop and implement strategies for PFAS compliance, risk reduction, and substitution in products, processes, and supply chains.
- Conduct assessments of PFAS use and potential environmental and health impacts.
- Engage with suppliers, customers, and regulators regarding PFAS regulations and best practices.
- Manage remediation, reporting, and stakeholder communication related to PFAS.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide training, guidance, and subject matter expertise to internal teams on compliance, sustainability, and PFAS.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and stakeholders.
- Lead cross-functional teams and external consultants to execute compliance and sustainability projects.
- Manage internal audits and drive training and development
- Develop, create, onboard and manage Regulatory Compliance team.
- Support and drive ISO 9001:2015 initiatives related to role.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Chemistry, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, environmental management, or sustainability, with PFAS experience strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including emerging PFAS requirements.
- Proven track record in developing compliance programs and sustainability initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CHMM, QEP, CEM, CSR-P) preferred.
