Role Overview
At RLB, we’re proud to be shaping the future of the built environment — and we know that starts with investing in the next generation of talent. Our Summer Placements are a great opportunity to explore what it’s like to work at RLB, gain hands-on experience, and start building your career in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Role Responsibilities
As a Fire Engineering Summer Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals to help create safer and more resilient buildings. You’ll gain insight into how fire engineering fits within design, construction and building management — supporting live projects and learning from specialists in the field.
Your day-to-day could include:
Learning from Experienced Professionals: You’ll work alongside engineers and consultants, observing and supporting their work on real projects. This is a chance to see how fire safety is considered in the design and management of buildings.
Supporting Project Work: You may help with tasks such as reviewing building plans, preparing documents, or gathering information needed for fire safety assessments. Your work will contribute to ensuring that buildings are safe and meet regulations.
Collaborating with Teams: Expect to work closely with other interns, engineers, and consultants. You’ll attend team meetings, share updates, and learn how different roles come together to deliver a project.
Developing Technical and Interpersonal Skills: You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, seek feedback, and take on new challenges. This will help you build both your technical understanding of fire engineering and your confidence in working with others.
Participating in Training and Development: RLB offers learning sessions, mentoring, and opportunities to develop your skills. You’ll be supported to grow, whether it’s through formal training or informal guidance from your colleagues.
Contributing to a Positive Team Culture: You’ll be recognised for being proactive, positive, and willing to help others. Being a team player and showing a strong willingness to learn are highly valued.
