Astria Health is seeking a Chief Nursing Officer to join our team! This position is located at our Astria Sunnyside Hospital.

The Chief Nursing Officer role establishes and communicates a vision and direction for patient and family-centered, evidence-based care delivery in an integrated and team-based context. In partnership with the Executives and Operations Leaders, the CNO leads in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the quality of clinical care across the Nursing Services continuum. The position is responsible for driving a service-oriented culture focused on superior patient experience, employee engagement, quality, safety, and operational efficiency. Sets and enforces standards for professional nursing practice including leadership development, educational programs and requirements, and workforce goals and targets. Responsible for establishing a culture of accountability and stewardship, and for leading process improvement initiatives in the removal of unnecessary clinical and practice standard variation. Advocates for strategic patient care priorities with internal and external constituents and stakeholders to ensure optimal operational effectiveness and quality and safe patient care, influence policy development and funding priorities, and address health inequity. Serves as a member of the Astria Health Leadership team and collaborates closely with Astria Health System to achieve system-level quality outcomes and priority strategic clinical initiatives.

  • Participates in setting the direction of the organization by contributing to the development and implementation organizational strategies to promote excellence in patient care services and financial stewardship or the organization.
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of nursing and interdisciplinary practice and articulates patient care standards in compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes and translates meaningful and appropriate performance measures and analysis to ensure decisions are data-driven and produce action and superior results.
  • Demonstrates support of change by establishing quality improvement goals and outcomes in collaboration with quality and clinical partners. Leads forward looking innovation through the design of care delivery models to achieve patient safety, quality outcomes and seamless transitions of care.
  • Creates environment in which professional and personal growth is an expectation. Responsible for planning and implementing clinical education for nursing leaders and staff.        
  • Leads the efficient operations of nursing services. Utilizes financial mindfulness in the efficient operation of the service including utilization review, and acuity-based staffing and care delivery.
  • Engages stakeholders to participate actively in decision making. Plans and conducts conferences and discussions with administrative, Union Representatives, and professional nursing staff to encourage participation in formulating departmental policies, promote initiatives, and interprets new regulations and procedures.
  • Collaborates with and facilitates communication, relationship and team building among Nursing personnel, Medical Staff, hospital departments, patients and community partners to meet the needs of patients and the organization.
  • Acts a liaison between Medical Staff and Nursing Services department employees facilitating timely communication and follows up on issues.
  • Promotes patient and family centered care. Actively advocates for and engages patients and their families in decisions impacting their personal healthcare as well as systems level quality, safety and care improvements.
  • Anticipates and responds quickly to trends and opportunities internal and external to the healthcare industry. Works in partnership with academic, public policy, and community leaders regarding nursing and other health care issues.
