Responsible for all company environmental and safety programming and training at Minnesota Corrugated Box.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)

Oversee and develop company safety programs

Report out any incidents in accordance with company procedure

Investigate incidents, involve appropriate team members

Lead safety inspections, meetings, and training programs

Conduct new-hire safety orientation program

Lead Hearing Conservation Program

Deliver injury treatment: provide first aid if necessary, transport to medical facility, monitor medical care

Monitor light duty program: develop jobs; communicate with physician/doctor, etc.

Complete and maintain all paperwork with regards to work-related incidents

Assist with the purchasing safety equipment and systems

Apply OSHA regulations where applicable, keep the location in compliance

Responsible for facility fire protection systems and subsequent training

Maintain membership in applicable safety associations to stay informed of new developments and trends

Develop rapport with locations plant employees and management members

Prepare legal notices, postings, and reports as required by government and regulatory bodies, including OSHA logs

Conduct inspections; fire suppression systems, eyewashes, etc.

Conduct contractor on-site safety training program

Be liaison between site and corporate levels for communication of updates, policy changes, etc.  

With the assistance of site management and the Corporate Environmental Department, ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental laws and regulations at the site.

Communicate with government agencies (IDEM,EPA)

Conduct required environmental inspections, sampling, and monitoring.

Prepare and submit required environmental reports, including air emissions inventories, wastewater discharge monitoring reports, storm water reports, hazardous chemical inventories, and Form R reports for the site.

Monitor site changes and permit renewals; and implement actions at facilities to maintain compliance with permit, plans, registrations, and regulations.

Maintain environmental records and the site’s Environmental Management and Information System (EMIS)

Implement site employee environmental training programs.

Knowledge of air permit compliance reporting, wastewater permitting and reporting, storm water permitting and compliance, spill prevention, and Tier II and TRI reporting required.

Comply with company policies and procedures

Additional duties as assigned by management

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE-  

Two years of experience in the Occupational Safety field, manufacturing preferred

Clear, concise oral and written communication skills

BS degree in Occupational Safety/Environmental or related field

Experience in the Safety/Environmental field in the paper industry preferred

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS-

Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, manuals, regulations, and codes

Ability to write business reports and correspondence

Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, contractors, employees and outside officials to the company

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS-  

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, volume, and net present value. Able to apply concepts of algebra and geometry along with basic math (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing)

 

REASONING ABILITY-

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

 Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS-

Ability to gather information and perform root cause analysis and problem solving

Ability to create reports for review by upper management

Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Quality Standards (e.g. ISO 9001/2000 and EMS 14001)

OSHA Certification
