Estella Health is excited to announce part time / per diem openings for a MIH
Respite Technician in our highly successful Respite Program in Worcester!
Purpose
Under the direction of the Estella Health Leadership and supervisory staff, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) will provide safe and effective medical
care at the basic life support level. As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at the onsite facility, you will be a vital member of our healthcare team,
responsible for providing immediate first aid and medical care to both staff and clients on-site. Your primary role will be to respond to medical emergencies,
assess and stabilize patients, and facilitate their safe transfer to a medical facility when necessary. This position requires a compassionate and skilled
EMT with the ability to work effectively in a healthcare setting.
Essential Duties
- Provide safe and effective onsite medical care at the basic life support level up to and including enhanced MIH skills.
- Ability to work independently in a respite care setting.
- Complete patient care documentation in a timely and comprehensive fashion and obtain information to facilitate reimbursement for all patients transported, when appropriate.
- Adhere to and value Estella Health/CMTS policies and procedures.
- Maintain clinical proficiency and knowledge base.
- Ensure that the onsite facility is clean, stocked, and has all necessary and functional equipment.
- Retrieve, stock, and clean medical equipment.
- Reports to assigned shifts punctually in a complete, clean uniform.
- Protect the privacy of all protected health information in accordance with CMTS policies, procedures, and practices as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with the general principles of professionalism as a healthcare provider.
- Accepts responsibility for maintaining certification / recertification as an EMT in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; completes appropriate continuing education courses in a timely fashion; remains current in certification of basic life support / CPR at the healthcare provider level.
- Completes all required MIH onboarding and continuing education in the specified timeframe.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or other equivalent.
- Currently certified and in good standing as an emergency medical technician by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Public Health (DPH), Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS).
- Current BLS / CPR healthcare provider level certification.
- Current motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions using the English language.
- Satisfactory CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information).
Physical Requirements
The demands of the position require significant physical strength and dexterity along with the ability to function in adverse environments with potential exposure to the numerous health and safety risks inherent in emergency scenes, the ambulance setting, and the healthcare environment. It is expected that the performance of any or all of the physical activities described below would not hinder the EMTs ability to perform patient
care.
- The ability to walk a distance of mile without difficulty.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry adult patients, up to 125 pounds per partner (250 pounds total), from various positions (e.g., chair, floor, bed) to patient movement devices (e.g., ambulance cot, stair chair, long spine board) and then move them efficiently to and from the ambulance.
- Ability to bend / stoop, crouch / kneel, reach, push / pull, and grasp in a variety of circumstances and positions in order to facilitate patient movement and provide care.
