Scope of Work:

The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) position is responsible for managing site safety and health programs to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies across all operations at NSA Orlando MFSS.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary on-site representative responsible for implementing and enforcing the Contractor’s safety and health program.
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable regulatory and contractual requirements, including EM 385-1-1 and 29 CFR 1926.16.
  • Maintain and administer the Government-approved Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and all associated Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
  • Be present on-site at all times when work is being performed or ensure an equally qualified Designated Representative is available to perform SSHO duties.
  • Provide safety oversight and maintain a team that includes at least one Competent Person for each identified hazard in accordance with the APP.
  • Verify and submit credentials of all designated Competent Persons for government acceptance.
  • Conduct site inspections, hazard assessments, and corrective actions to eliminate unsafe conditions.
  • Lead and document daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
  • Coordinate with project management and government representatives on all safety matters and required reporting.
  • Promote a proactive, compliant safety culture throughout all phases of work.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity, or three (3) years with a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential or a degree in Safety or Occupational Health.
  • Completion of the OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety course (or equivalent).
  • Must maintain competency through at least 24 hours of formal safety and health coursework every four years.
  • Training, experience, and qualifications must meet the criteria outlined in EM 385-1-1, Paragraph 2-3.b and all related sub-paragraphs.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.

 

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

  • This position requires the ability to move throughout active work areas to observe operations, conduct inspections, and identify potential hazards.
  • Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) walking, standing, climbing, kneeling, stooping, and reaching for extended periods, as well as the ability to lift up to 50 pounds when performing inspections or assisting with safety equipment.
  • Must be able to work on-call, alternate, and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions. Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and around various hazards with appropriate PPE.
