General summary: 

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a registered professional nurse responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care within the patient’s place of residence. The primary function of this position is to assist in the overall administration and oversight of clinical departments, ensuring appropriate staffing, productivity, and adherence to agency standards. The ADON coordinates patient care with the interdisciplinary team, patients, families, and referring agencies; monitors and analyzes Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QA/PI) issues; and provides direction to clinical staff regarding agency policies and procedures.


All RRH employees must perform their job responsibilities according to all RRH Hospital policies, as well as to accrediting organizations, federal and state regulation, and to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, as applicable.

Requirements

Job Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.

Licensure:

  • Current State license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or eligibility per the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Current State Driver’s License.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare facility required.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in nursing practice in accordance with generally accepted standards of care.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proven decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
  • If required to make home visits, must provide proof of a Hepatitis profile.

Transportation:

  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid and current automobile liability insurance.

Environmental & Working Conditions:

  • Performs duties primarily in an office setting during agency operating hours.
  • If required to make home visits, may be exposed to various home environments, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, travel locally, and respond to PRN emergency calls, including death pronouncements.
  • Must be accessible at all times—either in person or via telecommunications.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Extended periods of walking, standing, and sitting.
  • Some bending, stooping, and reaching required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must demonstrate emotional stability, sound judgment, and the ability to perform duties under stress.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in overseeing clinical departments and locations, ensuring continuity, quality, and safety of services in compliance with State and Federal regulations (Conditions of Participation).

2. Promotes the agency’s mission, philosophy, and administrative policies to ensure high-quality patient care.

3. Supports the DON in providing direction and supervision to clinical staff to ensure quality care, compliance with the Plan of Care, accurate assessment and reassessment, and continuity of services.

4. Assists the DON in monitoring the Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QA/PI) Program and ensures timely implementation of corrective actions.

5. Promotes compliance with fiscal intermediary and third-party payor requirements through education, coaching, and process oversight.

6. Serves as an active member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), assisting with the development and review of patient care plans and participation in QA/PI activities.

7. Completes mandatory continuing education requirements as defined by the agency and/or licensing board.

8. Promotes infection control and standard precautions to prevent contamination and disease transmission during patient care activities.

9. Demonstrates and fosters effective interpersonal and communication skills among team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
