The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana.
Join the Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health as a Public Health Epidemiologist in the Section of Environmental Epidemiology and Toxicology (SEET)! Within this position, you will be responsible for compiling and tracking core environmental and public health measure data, including database management, development of Nationally Consistent Data and Measures (NCDMs) and related metadata; trend analysis, and statistical calculations. All analyses are done to identify areas with possible toxic environmental contamination, hazardous substances, etc, or areas with high rates of disease for the ultimate purpose of prevention and intervention. You’ll participate in appropriate CDC Metadata and Content Workgroups to ensure standards are understood and implemented by SEET and state partners. The position is responsible for duties related to environmental public health tracking and other investigations and surveillance activities, such as evaluating statistical data, carrying out epidemiological investigations, and miscellaneous special projects
Position Duties
A doctorate degree in epidemiology.

Job Duties:
- Obtains and reviews environmental and health data and processed Nationally Consistent Data and Measures (NCDMs).
- Maintains and updates SEET's EPHT databases and performs statistical analyses of EPHT data.
- Consults on health effects attributed to air and drinking water quality and assists in the drafting and finalizing of annual EPHT summary reports.
- Collects and tracks EPHT related cases received from all sources; including collecting and compiling related medical records and laboratory results;
- Establishes a relationship with partners and identifying additional data sources
- Compiles and analyzes health and environmental data; establishes and maintains electronic and manual files for stored data; prepares and evaluates existing databases containing population, mortality, morbidity, hospitalization, birth defect, childhood lead, reproductive health outcome, poison control, water, air and geospatial data to report on factors which may affect the health of Louisiana citizens.
- Supports EPHT projects by conducting literature review, epidemiologic analysis to include descriptive statistics and more advanced analyses in consultation with statistician, presents findings to partners and participates in project discussions, formulates repeatable analyses so that these methods can be shared and documented.
- Documents all processing steps in metadata and for knowledge transfer for redundancy to ensure data requests can be fulfilled.
